For example, the earthquake that occurred in Aceh in 2004, which triggered a tsunami and resulted in more than 200 thousand casualties, shows how devastating the impact of this phenomenon is. Seismometers are used to detect and measure the strength and location of earthquakes. The Richter scale is a tool commonly used to measure earthquake magnitude.
